So I’ve been working on this book on dungeon delving for quite a while. Somewhere along the way I got sidetracked into writing a nine part rhyme chronically in the experiences of a first time dungeon delver. Release date is still to be announced.
I’m an artist and designer by trade, but I’ve developed A bit of a taste for these ridiculous limerick style rhymes. It’s mentally challenging to workout exactly what I want to say in a writing format, without being overly demanding on the volume of work that has to be created. Granted, I got a bit carried away with this one. That said it was worth all of the work that went into it.
I’m experimenting with the idea of spinning this off into its own publication in a children’s book sorta format. Think Doctor Seuss, but dungeon delving. Or perhaps closer to those little black and white illustrations from the original AD&D core books that ran along the bottom of the page.
Part 1
This was actually one of the last sections that I wrote, having started the rhyme with the fated hero of our story already in the dungeon. It wasn’t until much later in the process that I realized it needed context and perspective. The perspective was the nameless heroes naivete of dungeon delving, and the contrast was that of the boring safety of the tavern vs the desperate terror of the dungeon, 5 levels deep.
